Ch 5: Step three: Do it - Lethal techniques

Shooting

Advantages of shooting

  1. shooting is one of the fastest and most humane methods for killing wildlife

  2. it will work with many different species, under many conditions

  3. minimizes the handling of a live animal

Disadvantages

  1. may splatter brain tissue, saliva, or blood, which could expose someone to wildlife diseases

  2. may interfere with the collection of the tissue sample needed for the rabies test

  3. cannot be done everywhere. There are legal restrictions and safety concerns that limit its use

  4. requires skill and proper equipment

  5. can be dangerous to people and other species
