Persons Interested in Becoming Wildlife\nDamage Control Agents<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The West Virginia Code 20-2-50A provides that the Director\nof the Division of Natural Resources shall establish regulations for licensed\nwildlife damage control agents.  Legislative\nrule (Title 58, Series 41 \u2013 Wildlife Damage Control Agents) establishes\nregulations to govern the licensing, training, and operations of wildlife\ndamage control agents in West Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Persons interested in becoming\nlicensed wildlife damage control agents must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.   Complete an application for a wildlife damage\ncontrol agent license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.   Be 18 years of age or older.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.   Register for and complete the online course available at <\/p>\n\n\n\n

https:\/\/store.nwctp.com\/products\/west-virginia-wdca-training-and-certification-  program<\/a><\/strong>. Applicant must satisfactorily\npass the online test that is part of this training and present their\ncertificate of completion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.   Demonstrate his or her knowledge of wildlife\ndamage control agent laws, regulations, and policies through the satisfactory\ncompletion of a WVDNR monitored, written test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.   Satisfactorily pass a background check to determine if the applicant has been
convicted of any violations of federal or state statues relating to the activity for which
the license is sought. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.   Pay the appropriate fee for the category of\nlicense applied for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nonline course costs $200. Online tests are timed, and open book. You will only\nbe allowed two attempts at no additional cost. Cost is $100 for each additional\ntwo attempts. Attempts online are unlimited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WVDNR\nmonitored, written test will be administered at Division of Natural Resources\ndistrict offices on scheduled dates.  These\ntests are timed, closed book, at no cost. You will only be allowed two attempts\neach six months to obtain a passing grade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Test questions\nwill be obtained from the references listed below.  The examination will be difficult.  The test will cover various questions on legislative\nrules, animal identification, and wildlife damage control.  Taking the online course will assure that you\nare prepared to take and pass the test, and to be successful in your business\nas a WDCA in West Virginia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following reference materials are required\nfor study and will provide you with all the study materials you will need to\npass the test and run a successful business:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.   Curtis,\nP., S. Hyngstrom, and R. Smith, eds. 2018. West Virginia Wildlife Damage\nManagement with Wildlife Species Information. National Wildlife Control\nTraining Program. 438 pp. Obtained from https:\/\/store.nwctp.com\/products\/west-virginia-wildlife-damage-control-agent-training-manual<\/a>.\n <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.   West\nVirginia Hunting and Trapping Regulations (current year). Obtained from WVDNR or at www.wvdnr.gov\/hunting\/hunting_regs.shtm<\/a>.\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wildlife\ndamage control agent should have a local field guide to mammals, birds,\nreptiles and amphibians.  There are\nseveral good ones available and these can be substituted for the above references.  If possible, obtain the latest edition of\nthese guides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
