{"id":1428,"date":"2020-07-17T14:54:30","date_gmt":"2020-07-17T14:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nwco.net\/?page_id=1428"},"modified":"2020-07-17T14:54:31","modified_gmt":"2020-07-17T14:54:31","slug":"re-nuisance-wildlife-control-involving-bats-encountered-in-residences","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/nwco.net\/?page_id=1428","title":{"rendered":"RE: Nuisance wildlife control involving bats encountered in residences"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>July 16, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RE: Nuisance wildlife control involving\nbats encountered in residences<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Licensee:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This letter is being sent to you to\nclarify the previous communication you received from our office concerning\nNuisance Wildlife Control Operator (NWCO) work relating to bats encountered in\na residence (home or other dwelling). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There has been some confusion concerning\nwhat a licensed NWCO may or may not do in relation to bats encountered in a residence.\nThis letter clarifies the steps NWCO\u2019s should follow when responding to bats in\na residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal is to prevent any bats that have\nbeen exposed to humans, and potentially the SARS-CoV-2 virus, from being\nreleased to the wild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When responding to a situation where bats\nare found in a residence: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Licensed\nNWCO\u2019s may:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Continue to conduct exclusion techniques\nto keep bats from reentering a residence;<\/li><li>Capture bats that have entered the living\nspaces of a residence;<\/li><li>Euthanize and properly dispose of bats\ncaptured in the living spaces of a residence.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Licensed\nNWCO\u2019s may not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Release any bats trapped or captured in a\nresidence.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For any bats you may encounter in a\nresidence, please continue to follow the already established best practices\nincluding all Rabies Vector Species protocols as well as any directives from\nlocal health departments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have included\nthe previous communication that was sent to all licensees including recommended\npersonal protective equipment, disinfecting and handling techniques.
