The individual can conduct these activities for commercial purposes or as an employee of a municipality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>License Details<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fees<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>General (Commercial) License:<\/strong>&nbsp;$50&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Municipal License:<\/strong>&nbsp;No Fee&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>License Duration<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1-year<\/strong>&nbsp;(October 1 &#8211; September 30)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What This License Allows<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Taking, transporting and releasing, or euthanizing wildlife when such wildlife damages or destroys property or poses a threat to public safety.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>For a General (Commercial) License holder only:<\/em>&nbsp;Charging a fee to provide wildlife removal services for a property owner or lessee.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What This License Does&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><em>Not<\/em><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;Allow<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Trapping or taking the following species without an additional special permit:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Endangered\/threatened species.<\/em>&nbsp;Requires an&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dec.ny.gov\/permits\/25012.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">endangered\/threatened species license<\/a>&nbsp;from DEC&#8217;s Special Licenses Unit.&nbsp;<\/li><li><em>Migratory birds (i.e. woodpecker, raptor, etc.).<\/em>&nbsp;The homeowner requesting removal must acquire a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fws.gov\/migratorybirds\/mbpermits.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal migratory bird permit<\/a>&nbsp;<sub>(External Link)<\/sub>&nbsp;from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Certain wildlife species, including:<\/em>&nbsp;white-tailed deer, black bear, beaver, otter, mink, muskrat, fisher, marten, bobcat, wild turkey, water snake, snapping turtle. Requires special depredation permit from a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dec.ny.gov\/about\/50230.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regional DEC wildlife office<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Pass the nuisance wildlife control operator examination with a score of 80% or higher:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Register for the exam:<\/em>&nbsp;contact a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dec.ny.gov\/about\/50230.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regional DEC wildlife office<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li><li><em>Dates &amp; locations:<\/em>&nbsp;Held at variable times throughout the year statewide.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Fee:<\/em>&nbsp;No fee.&nbsp;<\/li><li><em>Study Materials:<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nwco.net\/default.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator Training Manual<\/a>&nbsp;<sub>(External Link)<\/sub>&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Complete and submit the Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator License Application (sent in mail after passing the exam).&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Renewing &amp; Reporting<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>License Renewal<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Licenses expire annually on September 30 each year.<\/strong>&nbsp;A renewal form will be sent by mail prior to the license expiration date noted on the license.
